Qualified Accounts Technician (Maternity Cover)

About Us
We are a well-established, friendly accountancy practice based in [location], providing a full range of accounting, tax, and advisory services to a varied client base of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. We're looking for an experienced Accounts Technician to join our small, supportive team on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of maternity leave, with a strong possibility of the role becoming permanent thereafter.
The Role
Starting 01/10/2026 on a 12-month fixed-term contract, you'll take on day-to-day responsibility for a portfolio of clients, ensuring continuity of service throughout the cover period. Duties will include:
- Preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Bookkeeping and management accounts for a range of clients
- Preparing personal and corporation tax returns
- Liaising directly with clients and HMRC
- Supporting the wider team with ad hoc queries and deadlines
About You
- ATI qualified (or equivalent), part-qualified ACCA/CAI also considered
- Previous experience working in practice essential
- Confident using cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Strong working knowledge of UK accounting and tax compliance
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage your own workload
- Good communicator, comfortable liaising directly with clients
